Conveyor belts for the cement industry
Operating conditions for conveyor belts used in the cement industry can be some of the most unforgiving and damaging possible. Apart from the rapid wear caused by the highly abrasive materials being conveyed, the single biggest challenge of all is the very high temperatures of red-hot clinker. These high temperatures cause an acceleration of the aging process that results in hardening and cracking of the rubber covers. The continuous heat and elongation “stretch” within elevators also places an enormous demand on the conveyor belt. With so much that can go wrong, few manufacturers specialise in supplying belts for such demanding applications. However, at Dunlop we welcome such challenges.
Belts for specific needs
Dunlop engineers have developed rubber compounds designed to handle even the most extreme conditions and provide far longer operational lifetimes compared to those of our competitors. For example, Dunlop Betahete is a high-performance heat and wear resistant cover designed to withstand continuous temperatures up to 160C and peak temperatures as high as 180C. For more extreme temperatures and heavier duty service conditions, Dunlop Deltahete is able to handle maximum continuous temperatures as high as 200°C and peak temperatures up to 400°C. Dunlop Ultima premier grade rubber sheeting is specifically designed to provide outstanding durability across a wide range of industrial uses. Unlike almost all other industrial rubber sheeting, it is exclusively manufactured in our production facilities here in Holland.
These can be as much as 50% higher compared to conventional conveyors. Pipe conveyors often provide the most efficient solution in locations where there are environmental, safety or space limitations and are used to convey a broad spectrum of materials in many different industries ranging from chemicals to power plants.
Dunlop Multiprof is a multi-purpose profiled belt for inclined conveying that has been developed specifically for transporting packaged goods such as boxes, bags, and baggage as well as bulk materials including agricultural products, oily materials, woodchips and wet sand.
Dunlop Ferroflex has a tension layer composed of longitudinal steel cords through which power transmission is effected.
In some applications, especially primary and secondary crushers, even the strongest and heaviest conventional belts can be ripped or torn by large lumps of heavy, sharp objects, either falling from a height or becoming trapped. In extreme cases, belts can be destroyed within a matter of weeks or months.
Trioflex has been designed in line with the modern MPC-trend (minimum ply concept) and can be used very successfully for medium up to the heaviest service conditions, adverse loading conditions and coarse materials.
Dunlop Superfort ‘long life’ multi-ply conveyor belts have a long history of outstanding reliability and durability.
